Event Description:

THE WORKSHOP:
Vinyasa and the Prana of Asana
Vinyasa means: movement, arrangement, to assemble, and/or attitude. Yoga Vinyasa is the intelligent linking or sequencing of postures within a given practice. It also refers to the stages of practice or growth that we achieve doing Yoga throughout our lives. The aim of Vinyasa and Yoga in general - according to the ancient wisdom - is to unleash the vital force, called Prana. In this workshop, we'll practice and explore Asana as a means to access the infinite potential of energy (Prana). Through direct experience and theory we dive into dynamic and deep practices as the yogic pathway to inner and outer prosperity. All levels welcome.

The teachings that represent our guide posts for the entire weekend are the Gunas (the three attributes of nature). Throughout the workshop, each class will include dynamic movement, holdings, and heightened variations of classical Asanas. Each session will also include breathing, concentration techniques, and theory. Together, all these modalities map the journey to the body's hidden storehouse of power and capacity. The aim of each class is to inspire, inform, invigorate and renew.

Schedule:

ITINERARY (subject to change):
Friday evening, January 13, 2006, 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm
Tri Guna: Balance and Wholeness
Through theory and practice we activate the dynamics of a complete practice: How to use the forces of nature to our advantage, both on and off the mat.

Saturday morning, January 14, 2006, 9:00 am to 11:30 am
Rajas Guna: Empower, Stimulate, and Expand
The focus of practice in this session is to experience the Yogic approach to overcoming our inner and outer limitations. By activating the system trough specific postures, we stimulate and enhance a passion for life and our motivation to grow. Emphasis is on backbends, lateral postures and hand balances.

Saturday afternoon, January 14, 2006, 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm
Tamas Guna: Stability and Grounding
Stability is the core of Yoga. Steadiness in the midst of change, confidence in the midst of uncertainty are the hallmarks of internal and external riches. Emphasis is on standing postures and forward bends.

Sunday morning, January 15, 2006, 9:00 am to 11:30 am
Sattwa Guna: Freedom and Illumination
Sattwa is the balance that leads to clarity, calm and the light of understanding. It enables us to see the treasure in ourselves and in the opportunities in the world that may otherwise remain hidden. Emphasis is on twists, balancing poses, and refinement of the breath.
