Learn how this ancient but widely unknown yoga practice can enhance your life.
I learned about yoga nidra during my yoga teacher training as most of us do but the practice really stood out for me.
I've been a massage therapist for over a dozen years and have seen how stress and overwhelm can harm a persons health.
One of my favorite things about bodywork, whether it's through a healing massage or through an enegry filled Reiki session, is when you experience that happy place where your mind is fully aware of what's going on around you, but your body has decided to take a deep sleep.
My clients can even start to make those cute little (and sometimes not so little) snore noises, but as soon as I check in with them about their comfort, they answer back as a fully awake and aware person.
To me, this signifies that their nervous system is slowly switching over from it's sympathetic (stress) response to it's parasympathetic (rest and digest) response. SUCCESS!
It's an important switch to filp, for most of us live in a constant state of rushing and stressing about ALL THE THINGS.
Yoga nidra fit so perfectly in to my bodywork practice and I love introducing it to my clients as well as my yoga students.
It's not going to give you a work out but it will challenge you through meditation exercises. Can you stay awake and aware through all of them? It's harder than you think!
Here are some ways a regular yoga nidra practice can change your life for the better.
- Increased body awareness. This is super important to a yogi because having awareness about body sensations can keep you from injuring yourself.
- Deeper, more peaceful sleep. Not only will a regular yoga nidra practice help you relax easier and sleep better, you'll also learn a new tool to help you catch some Z's on those night when sleep is hard to come by.
- It gives you the opportunity to learn about yourself. What is your intention for todays practice? What is your hearts biggest desire? Where is your "safe space"? What is the felt sense of your ear? We explore all these questions and more during the class.
Do you have a regular meditation or yoga nidra practice?
