Why Retreat? Who needs to retreat? When to retreat?
One word~ HEALTH... physical, mental, emotional, intellectual and beyond!
Yes, because when you take the time to care for yourself you rebuild your health and well being. We generally do not slow down and care for ourselves in a meaningful way until we start to show symptoms of fatigue, a cold, skin rash... the list of subtle and not so subtle symptoms is loooong! As we start to enter the holiday season there are so many opportunities to become over stimulated, exhausted, and run down.
Once we expand our self-imposed limits, we open up to life changing experiences that often happen when we go away from home. We unplug from our day -to-day and reclaim our sense of wonder, our innate joy and come home to our true self.
I am interested in offering retreats because it was on retreat that I first realized how much extra energy I had been spending. I kept myself engaged with my outer life, without doing any practice to support my inner life. I had no idea i was depleted, and the invigoration I experienced as a result of the retreat was a real eye opener!
My retreat experience reminded me of how I felt when I started to practice yoga. I started to practice with discipline after my dad passed away. We were very close, and when he died, I was adrift. I felt that my emotions and stress were working against me. To the outsider, my life was “on track”, but I did not have much in reserve, and my father’s passing drained what was left. I no longer felt resilient and I had become “edgy” and lacked adaptability. My stress level hovered above normal and if something unexpected occurred, I would swing to and fro emotionally. The practices I began to connect with are the practices that I will be sharing on our retreat. They are simple, yet powerful. They recharged my batteries, and helped me to move back to vibrant health.
So, why wait? Why bring your body to the brink? I firmly believe that we must practice self care each and every day. When you go on retreat engage in daily practices that support your body and mind. Practice yoga asana, pranayama, meditation and deep relaxation. Restore your tissues and organs in restorative yoga. Enliven your mind with walks in nature, and look to appreciate beauty in simple and natural settings. Retreats move you out of our norm, to experience yourself in relation to likeminded souls interested in nourishing themselves and reviving collective spirits~
