WEEKEND OVERVIEW: Awakening the Power of Yoga

Hatha Yoga, as it was originally envisioned, is the sublime science that details the journey to greatness through perfection of body, breath, mind, and spirit. When understood and practiced accordingly, Hatha is Para ("supreme", "highest", "the place where our best efforts culminate"). Unfortunately, little of the knowledge of this glorious tradition is known or available to modern teachers and practitioners.

According to the ancient sages the keys to our emotional and physical states are not in the body per say. The true power of Yoga is found in the energetic systems within it. Throughout this weekend, master teacher, Rod Stryker guides us into principles of accessing the true power of Yoga. These are the forces and internal dimensions of: Sun, Moon, and Fire.

Each class explores one of these specific approaches to empower practice and how to use Yoga to activate the forces that lead to success, freedom, and joy. Each practice includes Vinyasa flows, Asanas, breath work, focusing techniques, and relaxation, as well as, lecture.

In Rod's words, “The ultimate aim of Yoga is to empower you to see, feel, and live life fearlessly. The greatest accomplishment of any practice is to be the radiant being you were meant to be.”

Sun Practice: Awakening the Force of Transformation
We focus on the type of practice that leads to activation in the world and how to cultivate vitality, passion, and power, and then internalize it. These practices lead us to shine, both internally and externally.

Saturday afternoon, October 7, 2006, 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm
Moon Practice: Centering and Balancing
Through the activation of particular forces we can find our source of healing and peace. We can stimulate the nurturing energy that allows us to remain calm in the midst of turbulence, steady in the midst of change. These practices awaken hidden intelligence, intuition, and stillness.

Sunday morning, October 8, 2006, 9:00 am to 11:30 am
Fire Practice: Discovering and Living the Ultimate Aim of Practice
The aim of all Yoga practices is to awaken our inner fire – the force of Spirit. When the subtle force of fire is active in the body, it leads to extraordinary living and feeling. Practice centers around activating the dormant forces within the spine – the culmination and highest intent of Yoga practice.
