Why Retreat? Who needs to retreat? When to retreat?
One word~ HEALTH... physical, mental, emotional, intellectual and beyond!

Yes, because when you take the time to care for yourself you rebuild your health and well being. We generally do not slow down and care for ourselves in a meaningful way until we start to show symptoms of fatigue, a cold, skin rash... the list of subtle and not so subtle symptoms is loooong!

About the Author: 

Kathryn Templeton has devoted her life to the health of others. A psychotherapist for more than 20 years, Kathryn is a Master Teacher in the field of Drama Therapy and continues to work both clinically and as an educator specializing in the treatment of individuals with complex trauma. As an E-500 RYT and NAMA-registered Ayurvedic practitioner, Kathryn has worked to develop specialized treatments integrating the principles of yoga and Ayurveda with clinical theraputic techniques. Kathryn is currently a faculty member at the Himalayan Institute in Honesdale, PA, teaching courses on the Three Wisdom Traditions and Ayurvedic Yoga Specialist Training. In addition, she teaches in their 500-hour RYT program along with other yoga teacher training programs around the country and is an Adjunct Professor of Human Development and General Psychology in the Connecticut Community College system. She holds memberships with the International Association of Yoga Therapists, the National Association of Drama Therapists and the National Ayurvedic Medical Association.

Yoga and Breast Cancer

Recent clinical research shows promising proof that practicing yoga can have beneficial effects for those going through cancer treatment and for survivors of cancer. In a lecture about this topic, Dr. Lorenzo Cohen, PhD, Director of Integrative Medicine Program at MD Anderson, shared some of his research findings. In a collaborative study with the Vyasa Group, Dr. Cohen worked with women who were in radiation treatment for breast cancer.

The Only Real Yoga

I'm holding a grudge. That's bad for a yoga teacher, right? But I can't seem to help myself as I walk through a class of women (and a lone, older gentleman) moving and sweating in time with the fast beat and thrumming base playing during their nightly Zumba class. Each of their faces look bright and happy, but concentrated and present as they follow the movements of the teacher.

I hear a buzzer, loud and sharp, and I look through a window down onto a basketball court. Below me teenage boys scurry back and forth chasing that orange sphere, working team against team to score points.

Alex didn't grow up a competitive athlete. He didn't exercise or eat right or meditate. He lived like most Westerners on a diet of television and McDonalds. Then one day he looked in the mirror and saw reflected there a man he didn't recognize and that guy looked sick and unhappy.

He made a series of changes that led to dramatic weight loss opened his eyes to what is going on around America and the world. After finding yoga Alex realized there was a tool, a practice that could help him and others make positive change and so chose the path to bring it to others. Now he celebrates and shares movement through yoga with whomever he can get onto a mat.

The Good Traveller

Lao Tzu said, “A good traveler has no fixed plans and is not intent on arriving.” I would have called BS on the above quote until the day I lost control of my life wheel, while heading towards the life I thought I was meant to live. I had a plan, a good one, a solid one, and a fun one. I guess I got too cocky or maybe just a bit too comfortable because the direction I was heading took a major detour, then another, then another, until I was completely lost.

In 2005, DeAnna created the “Breathe Into Recovery” program for those healing from addiction and is a strong believer of Yoga for Emotional Healing and has been training teachers and offering workshops since 2007 through her “Breathe into Awareness” Programs. Reprogramming the Human Bio-computer

Meditation is a catalyst for experiencing comfort and equanimity. At times those feelings expand into a translucent experience of our holistic nature – an awareness of an essential ‘presence’ that permeates the world. Some pragmatists suggest that such experiences are merely a rush of endorphins that create a physiologic euphoria. I prefer to believe that meditation facilitates a connection with our mystical nature, the highest wisdom and the most radiant beauty that our dull faculties can comprehend.

Trust Yourself First

One of the most important things I have learned from teaching yoga is very hard to do but of incalculable value.

Trust yourself first.

Please notice I did not say "trust yourself only". Listen to others' wisdom but do not lose
your rootedness in your own.

It has taken me a long time to consistently do this.

I am definitely make mistakes in my life.
